KIM SI-HYUN
Lingering Light Embracing Heart,1 May – 31 May 2026
In Kim Si-hyun’s work, there is always an act of enveloping.
The bojagi is not merely an object, but a form that holds, protects, and conveys intention. Through this traditional motif, the artist renders invisible emotions—care, devotion, and the passage of time—into a visual language.
What stands out in this exhibition is light. Flowing across fabrics of intense reds and deep blues, it goes beyond simple depiction to reveal layers of time that linger and permeate. The surfaces, carefully folded and tied, appear firmly closed, yet they contain emotions and narratives that remain open within. Precisely because they are not fully revealed, they invite a longer gaze and deeper imagination.
The knot of the bojagi does not mark an end, but the beginning of a relationship. To tie is not to sever, but to connect; to wrap is not to conceal, but to protect and to honor. Through this quiet gesture, the artist recalls the subtle textures of feeling we have long overlooked. The memory of hands folding cloth, of wrapping something for another, gently resurfaces before the work.
“Lingering Light” is the resonance of emotions that do not fade, while the act of “enveloping” becomes a way of holding them over time. Kim Si-hyun’s paintings are less about what is shown than about what is felt. And this sensation, though quiet, settles with clarity into the viewer’s sense of time.
